Edit a photo with AI, by painting or by describing

Remove a passer-by, change a sky, turn a vertical visual into a banner: the AI editor ("Retouche IA" in the app) brings five tools together. Here is which one to pick, how to set it up and where to find the result, in four steps.

In short

To edit a photo with AI: open the image in the AI editor, paint the area to erase or replace (and describe the replacement), or pick Expand, Upscale ×2 or ×4, or Background removal. The cost shows before you run, and the original is kept.

What the AI editor does

The AI editor opens on an image already in Beemm Vision: a generation, a gallery image or a board item. Two tools work on an area you paint: Erase removes it, Inpaint replaces it with what you describe. Three others work on the whole image: Expand extends the frame, Upscale raises the resolution, Background removal cuts the background out. To change the whole image with a sentence, without painting anything, use an editing model in Generate instead.

5 tools

Erase, Inpaint, Expand, Upscale, Background removal

×2 or ×4

for Upscale, with Clarity or Topaz

Original

always kept: a new image, or the previous version on a board

The four steps

  1. Step 1

Open the image in the AI editor

In Generate, click an image: the tools sit under the preview. On a board, select a single image, then the wand button (tooltip "Retouche IA"); for your own photo, drop or paste it onto a board first. The gallery of a workflow and the App-mode gallery of your own workflows open the same editor. It works on images only, not on videos.

  2. Step 2

Pick the tool for what you want to change

In the app, three tabs keep their French names: Erase is "Gommer", Expand is "Agrandir", Background removal is "Détourage". Erase removes an object, with no prompt. Inpaint replaces an area: FLUX Fill by default, or Bria GenFill, or GPT Image 2. Expand extends the frame. Upscale gives a larger, sharper image. Background removal gives a transparent PNG. For an overall change, attach the image as a reference in Generate with an editing model such as Nano Banana, GPT Image, Seedream, Qwen Image or FLUX.2 Pro.

  3. Step 3

Paint, describe or adjust, then run

For Erase and Inpaint, the brush marks the area (8 to 200 px, with an eraser and undo to fix the mask); Inpaint also needs a sentence describing the replacement. Expand is set with the handles or a quick format, with an optional scene. The run button shows the cost before you click.

  4. Step 4

    Find the result and compare

In Generate and the galleries, the edit is added to your generations and the original stays. On a board, it becomes a new version of the item: the history arrows bring the original back. In Generate, the cross on the pending tile only stops the wait: the edit already started is delivered and billed.

Use cases

Remove a passer-by

Erase on a travel photo or a packshot: an object, a reflection, a person in the background.

Change a sky

Inpaint on the sky with "a sunset sky": the replacement targets the painted area, the rest of the photo serves as context.

A vertical visual as a banner

Expand towards 16:9 with a described scene (the frame caps at 4096 px wide), then Upscale ×2 for print.

A staged packshot

Background removal for a transparent PNG, then the image as a reference in Generate: "place this product on a marble table".

Frequently asked questions

How do I edit a photo with AI?
Open the image in the AI editor (Generate, a board or a gallery), then pick the tool: Erase or Inpaint for an area you paint, Expand, Upscale or Background removal for the whole image. To change the whole image with a sentence, attach it as a reference in Generate with an editing model.
Do I need software or layers?
No. It all happens inside Beemm Vision, with nothing to install: a brush to mark the area, a sentence to say what should appear there. No layers, no lasso selection.
Can I erase something and replace it with something else?
Yes, in one go with Inpaint: paint the item and describe what should replace it. Erase only removes it and rebuilds the background.
How do I transform a photo or change its style?
Without a mask: in Generate, attach the photo as a reference, pick an editing model (Nano Banana, GPT Image, Seedream, Qwen Image, FLUX.2 Pro…) and describe the transformation. The model switches to editing on its own as soon as an image is attached.
Is AI photo editing free?
Each edit uses credits, and the cost shows on the button before you run. It depends on the image size for Upscale and for Inpaint with FLUX Fill or GPT Image 2, and is fixed for Erase, Expand, Background removal and Bria GenFill Inpaint. GPT Image 2 is one of the engines on offer, with no OpenAI subscription needed.
